CINEPLEX
The fact that the sole bid on the cineplex/garage project was almost 4 million over projected costs should have given everyone, including the City Council, the opportunity to reconsider the scope and scale of this project, with traffic impacts on Oak Street and restoration of the existing historic theater in the forefront.

Almost everyone agrees that the historic theater should be restored. Despite differences on plans for the rest of the project, it seems to me that the various interests could at least work toward the common goal of restoring the existing theater through, for example, raising funds to help pay for repairs. Such cooperative efforts would foster a positive atmosphere around the project and balance the confrontational nature of the debate, while also providing tangible support toward a mutually identified goal.
